A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue pushes through a weak spot or opening in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. This can happen in various parts of the body, but the most common types are:

  • Inguinal hernia (in the groin area)
  • Umbilical hernia (near the belly button)
  • Hiatal hernia (where part of the stomach pushes up into the chest through the diaphragm)
  • Incisional hernia (at the site of a previous surgical incision)

Hernias often cause a visible bulge and may be accompanied by pain or discomfort, especially when lifting or straining. Treatment typically involves surgery to repair the hernia and strengthen the weakened area.
