Inguinal Hernia

An inguinal hernia is a condition in which a part of the intestine or fatty tissue pushes through a weakness or hole in the abdominal wall or into the inguinal canal, which is located in the groin area. This can create a bulge that may become more noticeable when coughing, lifting, or straining.

Inguinal hernias are more common in men, as the inguinal canal is naturally larger in males. Symptoms may include pain or discomfort in the groin, especially when bending over or lifting, and a visible bulge. In some cases, the hernia may not cause any pain and might only be discovered during a routine physical examination.

Treatment often involves surgery to repair the hernia and prevent complications like strangulation, where the blood supply to the intestine is cut off.
