Tonsillectomy

A tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure in which the tonsils are removed. The tonsils are two small, oval-shaped glands located at the back of the throat that help fight infections, but they can become problematic if they are frequently infected or cause breathing or swallowing issues. Tonsillectomies are typically done to treat recurrent tonsillitis, sleep apnea, or other tonsil-related health problems. The procedure is usually done under general anesthesia, and recovery can involve sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and rest for several days to a week.
