A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, the pouch that holds the testicles. It’s similar to varicose veins that occur in the legs. Varicoceles develop when the veins that drain blood from the testicles become enlarged or dilated, leading to reduced blood flow. This condition can affect fertility and cause discomfort or pain in some men. It is most commonly found on the left side of the scrotum.
If a varicocele causes pain or fertility issues, treatments like surgery or less invasive procedures may be recommended to relieve the symptoms.
